On the morning of July 22, 2020, the expert team of the "General Technology" textbook writing group visited Fengxian High School in Shanghai for a series of exchange and observation activities. The event was led by the chief editor of the textbooks, Academician Zhu Junhao, with Professor Dingding Han, the chief editor of "Electronic Control Technology," also participating.

General Technology refers to the fundamental technologies involved in human scientific activities and production practices, including force technology, light technology, electrical technology, sound technology, magnetic technology, and thermal technology. The "General Technology" series of textbooks focuses on cultivating students' engineering practical abilities. The books follow a complete progression, beginning with the introduction of technological principles, moving through specific technical designs, plans, and implementations, and ending with communication and evaluation. This approach emphasizes stimulating and nurturing students' interest in project design and their hands-on operational skills.
For example, the Electronic Control Technology volume lists the component requirements and general components at the start of each project. The platform software provides circuit diagrams and wiring diagrams, allowing even students with no prior knowledge to follow the instructions and progressively experience the entire project. This method organically integrates textbook learning with engineering practice, using a problem-oriented approach to subtly enhance students' interdisciplinary problem-solving skills during the project implementation process.
Additionally, the series of textbooks covers a wide range of topics, including smart home applications, robotics design and production, technology and career exploration, creativity development, and technological invention, all of which touch upon various aspects of life, engineering, profession, and creativity. The content is rich and highly readable.

During the exchange, the textbook writing group experts engaged in lively discussions with the leadership and key teachers of Fengxian High School. They focused on how to cultivate students' innovative thinking and engineering practical abilities, especially for middle school students. The teachers and students exchanged constructive feedback on the actual needs and challenges in the teaching and learning processes of the textbooks.
Following the discussions, the expert group visited Fengxian High School to observe the students' science and technology innovation projects. They expressed strong appreciation for the school’s efforts in guiding and nurturing students' hands-on abilities in science and technology innovation.
Through this on-site teaching activity, the textbook writing group gained valuable insights into the school’s actual needs and feedback regarding the use of the textbooks. This provided a solid foundation for the continuous enrichment and improvement of the textbooks.
